A self-guided walking holiday along the coast of Northumberland, visiting the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.
From £400 per person
The Northumberland Coast Path walking holiday tours wild, unspoilt countryside, where castle ruins loom on the headlands above long beaches of golden sand.
This gentle, low-level walk is predominantly coastal, with one arc inland to enjoy stunning views of the coast from St Cuthbert’s Cave. Castles adorn the rocky cliffs, and at low tide, you can make your way across a tidal causeway to Holy Island to explore the extensive ruins of Lindisfarne Priory.
With plenty of beach walking between bustling seaside towns, the complete Northumberland Coast Path is a pretty, approachable and friendly section of the England Coast Path. We also offer a Northumberland Coast Highlights tour that spans 28 miles and hits our absolute favourite sections along the way.
We offer multiple holiday options along this trail. If you wish to experience the entire trail, simply select the first option from the list below.

“An amazing, fantastically organised and beautiful holiday. I cannot recommend the Northumbrian Coastline walk enough - and you Contours - thank you. Easy beautiful terrain. We were lucky with the weather which obviously made it more glorious. We only got lost twice”Mrs Harris, UK
“Good accommodation and a good walk.”Mr Hirst, UK
“The Northumberland Coast Path covers a very interesting and lovely area which was unknown to us previously. The mileage agreed was perfect allowing us time to explore the towns and villages.”Mrs Butcher, UK
“Easy walking along a well signed route. The coastal walking and views are excellent. The beaches are long and virtually empty. The villages and coastal towns are welcoming and have good places to eat. We continue to enjoy excellent service from you as we have done down the years - thankyou.”Mr Welford, UK
“Historical and scenic.”Dr Hacking, Canada
“Contours staff and admin support was very good and so were all the B&B's.”Mr Pert, UK
“Very lucky with the weather.”Miss Lonsdale, UK
“This was the first walk I ever did with Contours back in April 2010 (but it was then in the other direction), and I’ve wanted to revisit it for a while. It’s a stunning stretch of coastline with lots of things to see along the way. Definitely a good route to try for anyone new to long-distance walking, as it’s mainly flat and has very good waymarking.”Mr Julyan, UK
“A positive experience for me as a solo walker. Contours adjusted the length of walks each day to fit in with what I wanted to do along the way.”Ms Moorcroft, UK
